National Expansion

Since 1999, RE-SEED has trained about 200 retired science and engineering professionals at seven sites outside of Massachusetts (Decatur, Alabama; Palo Alto California; Denver, Colorado; Montgomery County, Maryland; Biddeford, Maine; Charlottesville and Fairfax County, Virginia and Greenville, South Carolina). Three new sites are being developed in South Carolina and Alabama.

In addition to the national expansion of RE-SEED, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences have already established their own version of the RE-SEED program in Sweden. RE-SEED encourages organizations with the appropriate infrastructure and connections to local schools to start Regional RE-SEED Centers in their areas.

RE-SEED at Northeastern University will work closely with each Regional RE-SEED Center (RRC) sharing materials and expertise concerning all aspects of the program including on-site training for the first two years. RE-SEED will also train some volunteers to be leaders so that they can train other volunteers, thus making each RRC self-sufficient within a few years. For more information, please see our guide to starting an RRC.

The IEEE Life Members have supported RE-SEED's national expansion effort since 1996. Additional support has come from the United Engineering Foundation, Hewlett-Packard Company, the House Foundation, PS3, Mountain View Alternative Schools (Virginia), the Charlottesville Albermarle School Business Alliance (Virginia)and General Electric (South Carolina).
